'Dancing Under the Stars' Most Successful Fundraising Gala in Columbia City Ballet's History

May 18, 2007

COLUMBIA, SC--Columbia City Ballet’s ‘Dancing Under the Stars’ event last weekend has proven to be the most successful fundraising gala in the Company’s 47-year history. The event, held Friday, May 11 on the rooftop of the Meridian Building, raised a net profit of $17,500.

“I am very pleased to be able to report that Dancing Under the Stars was a success by every measure,” said Chris Ray, treasurer of Columbia City Ballet’s Board of Directors. “The success of this event attributable to three factors: the Company’s professional, dedicated staff, led by William Starrett; the hard-working board of directors; and an arts-loving community in the Midlands.”

The event featured live music by The Mike Tronco Band, dancing on the beautiful rooftop of the Meridan Building (the use of which was donated by Nelson Mullins), a ballroom dance exhibition by Columbia’s Ballroom Company’s Paul Lagatore and Grace Keller, and a silent auction featuring a wide variety of items including Fendi sunglasses, a custom hand-made Vera Wang gown, a Cartier diamond ring and a ride in a British Provost airplane.

Columbia City Ballet will make Dancing Under the Stars an annual event. The date for next year’s Dancing Under the Stars will be announced in early 2008.
