Columbia City Ballet Announces 2007-2008 Season


As Columbia City Ballet enters its 47th season, the Company is proud to announce the lineup of productions for the 2007-2008 season at the Koger Center for the Arts.

Dracula: Ballet with a Bite
The cult hit and audience favorite Dracula: Ballet with a Bite returns the Koger Center for its 13th anniversary performances. The creatures of the night take over the stage in William Starrett’s acclaimed original production for four performances of what international publication Dance Magazine calls an “extravaganza that guarantees [the] audience a good time.”

Nutcracker
Columbia City Ballet’s holiday family tradition, Nutcracker, dazzles South Carolina audiences each season. Collecting the talents of more than 200 local children and 40 professional dancers, this award-winning Nutcracker has been proclaimed by The State newspaper “as close to perfect as you can get.”

Cleopatra – WORLD PREMIERE!
William Starrett’s original ballet Cleopatra follows the mighty legend of the Egyptian queen, the passionate fearless woman who seduced two of the most powerful men in the world. With $1.2 million sets created by Houston Ballet and Boston Ballet and original choreography by Starrett, Cleopatra will transport audiences to ancient Rome and Egypt amid a fascinating and passionate clash of cultures.

Beauty & the Beast
The season closes with the reprise of William Starrett’s original ballet Beauty & the Beast. With original music by Thomas Semanski (Dracula, Frankenstein), Columbia City Ballet brings the classic fairytale to life in a magical ballet perfect for children of all ages! “Columbia City Ballet’s ‘Beast’ is a beauty…magical…wonderful,” said The State newspaper.
